October 14, 2008

Midterm exam will held in class on October 21 (Tuesday). This exam will cover the materials from chapter 12 to chapter 15, inclusive. Exam will    have multiple choice questions, 'true/false/uncertain with explanation' type  questions and problem solving  questions. I strongly recommend to work out Assignment 1, 2 and 3, and go through the posted solutions as a part of your preparation for the exam.

Midterm exam will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long. It will have the following three parts:

Part A: 20 multiple choice questions     1.5*20 = 30 marks

Part A: 1 out of 2 'True/False/Uncertain with explanation' type questions or short questions 1*10 = 10 marks

Part B: 1 multi-part problem solving questions 1*20 = 20 marks

November 5, 2008

Due to some unavoidable circumstances, I have to cancel my tomorrow's (Nov 6) EC 349 classes and office hours. So, there will be no EC 349 class and office hours tomorrow. I suggest you to use the class time to work on the posted new assignments.

Final exam will be 3 hours long. It will have the following three parts:

Part A: 40 Multiple Choice Questions     1*40 = 40 marks

Part B: 2 out of 3 'True/False/Uncertain with Explanation' type Questions    10*2 = 20 marks

Part C: 2 Analytical / Problem Solving Questions    10*2 = 20 marks

Total Marks: 80

Final exam will cover all the materials I have covered in this course. That means exam will cover all the materials I covered from Chapter 12 to Chapter 19 (inclusive) of the text book including appendices plus two additional materials materials which are posted on the course website. All the materials will be more or less equally weighted in the exam.

Here is a list of materials which I did NOT cover in the course and thus will be NOT be covered in the final exam:

1. Two case studies from Ch 19 (p540-544 and p544-551 of the 8th edition or p524-528 and p529-533 of the 7th edition)

 [Note that there is a section titled, " Macroeconomic Interdependence Under a Floating Rate" in p544-545 of the 8th edition or in p528-529 of the 7th edition. I covered this topic, so it is included in the exam]

2. From the Lecture slides of Ch 19: slide number 18 to 24, inclusive and slide number 28 to 32, inclusive.

3. From the Lecture slides of Ch 17: slide number 58 to 65, inclusive.

4. Appendix 1 and Appendix 2 to Chapter 16 ( 7th or 8th edition)

5.  From the Lecture slides of Ch 16: slide number 83
