Research Institutes
The facilities of various research institutes on campus are available to graduate students in Economics -- in particular, the Industrial Relations Centre and the Institute for Intergovernmental Relations, which are affiliated with the School of Policy Studies, the Institute for Economic Research, and, the John Deutsch Institute for the Study of Economic Policy.
The John Deutsch Institute was established in 1984 as the successor to the John Deutsch Memorial and honours the memory of John Deutsch, renowned Canadian economist, public servant, and former principal of Queen's. The Institute's central purpose is to promote research and informed discussion of Canadian economic policy issues. Each year the Institute sponsors a number of conferences and policy forums with participants from government, the universities, and the private sector. The Institute regularly publishes reports on these conferences.
All members of the Department of Economics are members of the John Deutsch Institute, as are a number of members of cognate departments at Queen's. The Institute is served by an Advisory Board which is made up of about thirty distinguished Canadians. Professor Charles Beach will be the Director of the Institute 2008-2009.
