Estimated Expenses 2009-2010

Tuition fees will be in the neighbourhood of $7,000 for Canadian citizens and permanent residents entering the first year of the M.A. or Ph.D. program. The tuition fees for graduate students holding student visas at Queen's will be approximately $12,500 per year for the first year of the M.A. or Ph.D. program. These amounts include student activity/interest fees. More information on tuition and fees is available at the Registrar's web page, http://www.queensu.ca/registrar/.

Additional 'estimated' living expenses are as follows:
  $1,800     Textbooks & Supplies
  $6,040     Rent & Utilities, (2 people sharing a 2 bedroom apartment)
  $4,300     Food
    $720     Clothing
    $840     Miscellaneous
$756     UHIP Medical Insurance (1 person) (required for international students)
$14,456     Total

Given the variability of expenses from student to student, it is extremely hard to predict total costs for one year. Students should budget according to personal lifestyles, keeping in mind the costs that have been outlined in this booklet. We recommend that the following minimum amounts be budgeted for tuition fees and living expenses: $20,500 per year for Canadian citizens and permanent residents; $25,700 per year for international students. These amounts do not include initial travel costs. The above figures are for a single student.
