ECON 882 - Research Problems and Methodology

Course Description
This applied statistics course provides students with a unique opportunity to gain access to confidential longitudinal datasets. The course focuses primarily on panel data methods with a strong emphasis on a hands-on approach to learning statistics and programming techniques using Stata (no prior knowledge of Stata is required). Some topics to be covered include probit, IV, fixed effect, random effects, Hausman-Taylor estimator, selection bias and hazard models. As well, this course will give students a head start in preparing a research essay topic. Enrolment in the course is limited. This course is open to graduate students from other departments, with priority given to economics students. Please contact the instructor as soon as possible, since there is a requirement to fill out Government security clearance forms in order to gain access to the Statistics Canada Data.
