Julien Prat, "The Rate of Learning-by-Doing: Estimates from a Search-Matching Model", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 25, No. 6, 2010, pp. 929-962. The data used in the article are from the Januray 2004 Outgoing Rotation Group sample of the CPS. All data are in the file jp-data.txt, which is an ASCII file in DOS format. It is zipped in the file jp-data.zip. Unix/Linux users should use "unzip -a". The constructed dataset contains solely workers that: (i) work full time, (ii) are in the civilian labor force and are not self-employed, (iii) whose age is between 21 and 65, (iv) do not have tertiary education. Workers with a wage below the 1st percentile have been shed from the sample. The resulting data of 4749 observations are formatted as follows: Each row contains all the following information for a given worker: Column 1: Dummy variable equal to 1 when worker is employed, 0 otherwise. Column 2: Dummy variable equal to 1 when worker is unemployed, 0 otherwise. Column 3: Dummy variable equal to 1 when worker's gender is female, 0 otherwise. Column 4: Age of the worker. Column 5: Employment duration (in months) if available. The variable is set to 0 when the worker is unemployed or when he did not report his job tenure. Column 6: Wages of employed workers, 0 for job searchers. Column 7: Wages of workers with an employment duration inferior to one year, 0 otherwise. Column 8: Wages of workers with an employment duration inferior to one year that were also unemployed a year ago, 0 otherwise. Column 9: Unemployment spells of job searchers, 0 for employed workers.
