Carmine Ornaghi, "Assessing the effects of measurement errors on the estimation of production functions", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 21, No. 6, 2006, pp. 879-891. The data used in this paper, Encuestas sobre Estrategias Empresariales (ESEE), are the property of the Fundacion Empresa Publica (FUNEP). It is possible to buy the data from the FUNEP at reasonable prices. Information about the dataset and how to access the data can be found at the following web page: http://www.funep.es/esee/esee.asp The raw variables of the ESEE used in this study are: Name | Description codemp | identification code of the firm naceclio| industrial classification (18 sectors) idsit | status of the firm (ie. Participate or not in the survey) pbs | revenues from production vpv | firm-level variation of output price between t-1 and t het | total effective hours of work ptm | number of workers empidt | number of workers in R&D activities ccon | cost of intermediary consumption nsea | cost of external services vpmp | firm-level variation of price of material between t-1 and t vps | firm-level variation of price of services between t-1 and t vpe | firm-level variation of price of energy between t-1 and t knrbe | physical capital Industry-wide deflators for revenues and value added are taken from the Spanish National Institute of Statistics. They are reported in the two text files here attached. The first file (rev_deflators) reports the deflators for revenues (period 1990-1999)m while the second (vadd_deflators) reports the deflators for value added (period 1990-1997). Note that the first column of both files lists the identification code of the firm (codemp) so that the deflators can be immediately linked to the variables of the ESEE. The two text files, which are in DOS format, are zipped in the file ornaghi-data.zip. Unix users should use "unzip -a". The software used for the estimation is the DPD98 by Arellano and Bond, which can be downloaded from the web page www.cemfi.es/~arellano/ Please address any questions to: Carmine Ornaghi Dept. of Economics University of Southtampton SO17 1BJ Southampton U.K. C.Ornaghi [AT] soton.ac.uk
