Imad A. Moosa and J. L. Baxter, "Modelling the Trend and Seasonals within an AIDS Model of the Demand for Alcoholic Beverages in the United Kingdom", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vo. 17, No. 2, 2002, pp. 95-106. All data are in the file mbdata.dat, which is an ASCII file in DOS format. It is zipped in the file mbdata.zip. Unix users should use "unzip -a". The data set contains 7 variables and 125 quarterly observations covering the period 1964:1-1995:1. The data are organized by observation, with each observation spanning three rows. The variables are directly applicable to the estimation of equations 1 and 9 in the text (following the normal definitions in an AIDS model). The following is the ordering and definitions of the variables: PB The natural logaritm of the price of beer PW The natural logarithm of the price of wine PS The natural logarithm of the price of spirits WB The expenditure share of beer (%) WW The expenditure share of wine (%) WS The expenditure share of spirits (%) RE The natural logarithm of Real Total expenditure, calculated as the logarithm of total nominal expenditure (on beer, wine and spirits) minus the logarithm of a weighted average of the individual prices with the weights taken to be the initial expenditure shares. The source of the data is the U.K.'s Office for National Statistics (formerly the Central Statistical Office), Consumers' Expenditure. Imad A.
