Pushkar Maitra and Farshid Vahid, "The Effect of Household Characteristics on Living Standards in South Africa 1993-98: A Quantile Regression Analysis with Sample Attrition", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 21, No. 7, 2006, pp. 999-1018. The data used in this paper are from the South Africa Integrated Household Survey and from the Kwazulu-Natal Income Dynamics Survey. The South Africa Integrated Household Survey can be obtained from http://www.worldbank.org/html/prdph/lsms/country/za94/za94home.html The Kwazulu-Natal Income Dynamics Survey data set can be obtained from the International Food Policy Research Institute (http://www.ifpri.org/) The file mv-data.csv contains the final data set that is used in the paper. The file (qreg_July2004fv.do) is a Stata program that computes the bootstrap in bootstrap quantile regression estimates. They are both ASCII files in DOS format. The file mv-data.dta is a Stata data file that contains the same data as mv-data.csv. The two data files and the program are zipped in the file pm-fv.zip. Unix users should *not* use "unzip -a", because it would probably have very bad effects on the .dta file.
