Chang-Jin Kim, James Morley, and Jeremy Piger, "Nonlinearity and the Permanent Effects of Recessions," Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 20, No. 2, 2005, pp. 291-309. The file kmp-data.txt holds the data used in this paper. It is an ASCII file in DOS format, which is zipped in the file kmp-data.zip. Unix users should use "unzip -a". The data are quarterly real GDP for the United States (second column), Australia (third column), Canada (fourth column), and the United Kingdom (fifth column). The data are in levels and run from 1947:Q1 - 2003:Q1 for the U.S. and from 1972:Q4 - 2002:Q4 for the other countries. The models in the paper are estimated in growth rates, which are formed as 100 times the log first difference of the level data. U.S. real GDP data were obtained from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Data for the other countries are from the OECD.
