Michal Brzezinski, "Relative Risk Aversion and Power-law Distribution of Macroeconomic Disasters", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 30, No. 1, 2015, pp. 170-175. There are two data sets: barro_jin.txt and barro_ursua.txt. They are zipped in the file mb-data.zip. There are two variables in each data set: cons (consumption disasters) and gdp (GDP disasters). In the barro_jin.txt file, there are 99 observations for consumption and 157 observations for GDP. In the barro_ursua.txt file, there are 125 observations for consumption and 183 observations for GDP. Both data files are ASCII files in DOS format. They are zipped in the file mb-data.zip. Unix/Linux users should use "unzip -a". The source for the data sets is: http://rbarro.com/data-sets/. The file barro_jin.txt is a text version of the Excel file: http://scholar.harvard.edu/files/barro/files/7_disasters_data_2009.xlsx The consumption and GDP disasters in barro_ursua.txt were computed as in Barro and Jin (2011) using data from: http://scholar.harvard.edu/files/barro/files/barro_ursua_macrodataset_1110.xls The disasters were computed as proportionate contractions from peak to trough over periods of 1 or more years. Only contractions of size 10% and greater were retained. Barro, R. and Jin, T. (2011), "On the size distribution of macroeconomic disasters". Econometrica, 79: 1567-1589.
