Hilde C. Bjørnland & Leif Anders Thorsrud, "Commodity prices and fiscal policy design: Procyclical despite a rule", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 34, No. 2, 2019, pp. 161-180. The data used in this paper are described in Section 3.2 in the article, and in Appendix A in the online supplementary material. The attached file, bt-data.csv, contains the data used for estimating the benchmark model and producing the main results in the article, see Section 4. It is zipped in the file bt-data.zip. Since the file is n DOS format, Unix/Linux users should use "unzip -a". There are 121 rows and 45 columns in the bt-data.csv file. Variables are ordered in columns, and time is ordered in rows. The first column contains the dates. Their format is yyyy.qq, e.g., 2001.01, for year 2001 and quarter 1. The first observation in the data file is 1983.01. The last observation in the data file is 2012.04. In total there are 120 time sieres observations for each variable in the data file. Columns 2 to 45 of the btdata.csv file contains the different variables. The variable names are the same as those used in Table 2, in Appendix A, in the online supplementary material (but with an underscore in place of whitespace). All variables included in the bt-data.csv file are already transformed according to the description in Section 3.2 in the article and in Appendix A in the online supplementary material. If you use these data, please refer to the above article, and the original data providers. See Table 2, in Appendix A, in the online supplementary material for information about the original data sources. Hilde C. Bjørnland Leif Anders Thorsrud
