Daniel Avdic and Per Johansson, "Absenteeism, Gender and the Morbidity-Mortality Paradox", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 32, No. 2, 2017, pp. 440-462. The micro data used for the analysis were obtained by combining several administrative registers collected and held by Statistics Sweden. Access to these data is restricted by national and international regulations, but any researcher wishing to perform replication can apply for access to Statistics Sweden. The researcher should feel free to contact the authors for instructions regarding the necessary data sources and intermediate programs needed to generate the results in the paper. The datasets used in the analysis (for relevant years) are: -- The Swedish In-Patient Registry -- The Swedish Cause of Death Registry -- Sickness insurance spells from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency -- Socioeconomic and demographic variables from the LOUISE population panel Alternatively, researchers can apply for access to the final datasets directly to IFAU (the Institute for Evaluation of Labour Market and Education Policy). IFAU is not entitled to distribute the full data (such access must be arranged through Statistics Sweden). The practical arrangements for accessing the final dataset will to some extent depend on the location of the researcher and must be handled on a case-by-case basis. The authors will naturally cooperate to instruct the researcher about possible alternatives. The following commented program files (Stata) are provided to allow for replication. -- master.do -- diag.do -- shock.do -- sickleave.do -- covs.do These files are ASCII files in DOS format. They are zipped in the file aj-progs.zip. Unix/Linux users should use "unzip -a".
