Daniel Kuehnle, Michael Oberfichtner, and Kerstin Ostermann, "Revisiting Gender Identity and Relative Income within Households -- A Cautionary Tale on the Potential Pitfalls of Density Estimators", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 36, No. 7, 2021, pp. 1065-1073. The paper uses two different datasets which are both confidential: SIPP and IEB. The replication material is accordingly organised in two folders. Below, we describe each folder and give information on how to access the respective data. The folder IEB furthermore includes the do-files for the simulations in the paper. All files are zipped in the file koo-files.zip. Some files are ASCII files in DOS format, but others are binary. Unix/Linux users should be careful. 1) Folder SIPP_prog (US data) Data access: The authors use confidential administrative data that are not publicly available due to US data protection laws. Data access for replication is possible through the US Census Bureau; see https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/sipp/guidance/sipp-synthetic-beta-data-product.html (Last accessed: 2021-04-23) for further information. Content: The folder SIPP_prog contains a Stata master do-file (0_KOO_SIPP_SSB_master.do) and all do-files necessary to reproduce our results. Necessary ado-files are stored in the subfolder ado. 2) Folder IEB (German data and simulations) Data access: The authors use administrative data of the Institute for Employment Research. The data are social data with administrative origin which are processed and kept by Institute for Employment Research (IAB) according to Social Code III. There are certain legal restrictions due to the protection of data privacy. The data contain sensitive information and therefore are subject to the confidentiality regulations of the German Social Code (Book I, Section 35, Paragraph 1). The data are held by the IAB, Regensburger Str. 104, D-90478 Nürnberg, email: iab@iab.de, phone: +49 911 1790. Data access for replication is possible through the Research Data Centre of the IAB; see https://iab.de/en/daten/replikationen.aspx for further information. The authors are willing to assist; contact Michael Oberfichtner, michael.oberfichtner [AT] iab.de. Content: The folder IEB contains a Stata master-do-file (0_KOO_IEB_master.do). Starting this do-file creates all results presented in the paper that use IEB data and the simulations. The do-files are stored in the subfolder prog and additional ado-files are stored in the subfolder ado.
