Richard Bluhm, Martin Gassebner, Sarah Langlotz, and Paul Schaudt, "Fueling Conflict? (De)Escalation and Bilateral Aid", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 36, No. 2, 2021, pp. 244-261. These files in bgls-files.zip include the complete replication material for the paper. The Stata scripts will produce all tables and figures as reported in the paper, including those in the supplementary materials. All data files are in the folder "data", and all scripts are in the folder "do". There are 9 dta/csv files and 21 scripts. We usually provide one Stata script per table or figure. The scripts are named according to the numbering and titles in the paper such that you can easily find the one you are interested in. We provide empty folders for “tables” and “figures”, in which the results will be stored when you run the scripts. Please be sure to install the following user-written Stata programs before running the files: ssc install gtools gtools, upgrade ssc install parallel Observations: The number of observations depends on the exact specification and thus varies across tables and figures. All numbers of observations are reported in the tables or in the notes of the figures in the paper. Variables: Please see Table A-1 for descriptive statistics of the main variables. All variables used for figures and tables are labeled in the scripts. Sources of data: We derive data from a number of different sources including OECD; World Bank; UCDP-PRIO; Databanks International’s Cross-National Time-Series Data Archive (CNTS); The database of political institutions; START (National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism); Polity IV; replication data from Nunn and Qian (2014); UNCDAT; IMF (DOTS) Contacting the author: For questions about this data, the programs or results generated in the paper, please feel free to contact: Richard Bluhm, bluhm [AT] mak.uni-hannover.de
