Richard Startz, "The Next Hundred Years of Growth and Convergence", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 35, No. 1, 2020, pp. 99-113. All data used in the paper were taken from Penn World Table 9.0 as corrected on August 16, 2016. The sources are the Stata 14 file given at http://www.rug.nl/research/ggdc/data/pwt/v90/pwt90.dta and the Excel file given at http://www.rug.nl/research/ggdc/data/pwt/pwt-9.0. The raw data used are given in ASCII format in pwt90.csv. The file pwt90.xlsx is the original file as provided by the Penn World Table project. The variables used are RGDPNA -- real GDP in 2011 U.S. dollars at PPP POP -- population YEAR -- year COUNTRYCODE -- 3-character code for country COUNTRY -- country name There are 9,129 observations. The zip file guide-100-years.zip contains all the data and program files. It also includes a Microsoft Word file which includes helpful hints for the process of generating results, Program Guide Growth and Convergence 2017.docx. It includes various Matlab programs used to generate the results, and some of the intermediate files. All text files are ASCII files in DOS format. However, since the guide-100-years.zip also contains binary files, Unix/Linux users should *not* use "unzip -a".
