Dongfeng Chang and Apostolos Serletis, "The Demand for Gasoline: Evidence from Household Survey Data", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 29, No. 2, 2014, pp. 291-313. There are three data files corresponding to the three household types in Sections 6 and 7 of the paper. All three files are tab-delimited text files in DOS format. They are zipped in the file cs-data.zip. Unix/Linux users should use "unzip -a". Single_Members.txt (124KB) contains 2218 observations; Married_Couples_without_Children.txt (187KB) contains 3326 observations; and Married_Couples_with_One_Child.txt (344KB) contains 6141 observations. There are eight columns in each data file, and the variable name for each column (in order) in all files is: year = year; y = total expenditure; s1 = budget share of gasoline; s2 = budget share of local transportation; s3 = budget share of inter-city transportation; p1 = price of gasoline; p2 = price of public transportation; p3 = price of inter-city transportation.
