Jingfeng Lu and Isabelle Perrigne, "Estimating Risk Aversion from Ascending and Sealed-Bid Auction Data: The Case of Timber Auctions", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 23, No. 7, 2008, pp. 871-896. The data are US Forest Service Timber Auction data for year 1979. The data we use cover the states of the western half of the US. There are four ASCII files that contain the data used in this paper. All files, which are in DOS format, are zipped in the file lp-data.zip. Unix users should use "unzip -a". The first file is called Ascending_2Bidders.txt. This file has the data for ascending auctions with 2 bidders. There are 241 observations and 5 variables. Column 1: The total volume of the timber Column 2: Bid 1 (per unit of timber) Column 3: Bid 2 (per unit of timber) Column 4: Appraisal value (per unit of timber) Column 5: The Number of Bidders The second file is called Ascending_3Bidders.txt. This file has the data for ascending auctions with 3 bidders. There are 231 observations and 6 variables. Column 1: The total volume of the timber Column 2: Bid 1 (per unit of timber) Column 3: Bid 2 (per unit of timber) Column 4: Bid 3 (per unit of timber) Column 5: Appraisal value (per unit of timber) Column 6: The Number of Bidders The third file is called SealedBid_2Bidders.txt. This file has the data for sealed bid auctions with 2 bidders. There are 107 observations and 5 variables. Column 1: The total volume of the timber Column 2: Bid 1 (per unit of timber) Column 3: Bid 2 (per unit of timber) Column 4: Appraisal value (per unit of timber) Column 5: The Number of Bidders The fourth file is called SealedBid_3Bidders.txt. This file has the data for sealed bid auctions with 3 bidders. There are 108 observations and 6 variables.
