William A. Barnett and Ousmane Seck, "Rotterdam Model versus Almost Ideal Demand System: Will the Best Specification Please Stand Up?", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 23, No. 6, 2008, pp. 795-824. All files are ASCII files in DOS format. They are zipped in the file wbos-files.zip. Unix users should use "unzip -a". The file casesf.txt contains the parameters of the utility function used to generate the data for the 9 cases that we consider in the paper. It has 22 variables in the following order: case, a0m1, a0KQ1, a0KQ2, a11, a12, a22, rho, ac1, ac2, ac3, b11, b12, b22, delta, a0KQ3, sig12, sig13, sig23, n1, n2, n3. case contains the 9 case numbers a0m1 is the total expenditure on Q1 and Q2 a0KQ1 is Q1 at the median income a0KQ2 is Q2 at the median income a0KQ3 is Q3 at the median income a11, a12, a22, rho are parameters of U[Q1(x1,x2), Q2] in equation (36) ac1, ac2, ac3 represent respectively a1, a2, a3 in yi = xi - ai, I = 1, 2, 3 as in equations 36 and 37) b11, b12, b22, delta are parameters of Q1(x1,x2) in equation (37) In the last 3 columns, "sig" stands for Allen Uzawa Elasticity of Substitution, ni for income elasticity of good i File seedbase.txt contains seeds, positive integers used to start the pseudo-random number generator. It is composed of 4 series, each having 10,000 observations. The first column is row (indicate the row number), and the next three columns are sd1, sd2 and sd3, containing the seeds for the normally distributed errors on x1, x2 and x3 respectively. The other 6 files contains the core SAS programs: - pgm_Rott_jae_WBOS.txt and pgm_AIDS_jae_WBOS.txt for the Rotterdam and the nonlinear AIDS. - pgm_LAAIDS_STONE_jae_WBOS.txt, pgm_LAAIDS_LASP_jae_WBOS.txt, pgm_LAAIDS_PAASCHE_jae_WBOS.txt, and pgm_LAAIDS_TORNQVIST_jae_WBOS.txt for the linearly approximated AIDS. The programs use the two data sets seedbase.txt and casesf.txt. For further information, please contact: William A.
