The data are in 3 ASCII files (sedat1.txt--sedat3.txt), which are in DOS
format. All three files are zipped in the file sedata.zip. Unix users should
use "unzip -a". 

sedat1.txt - data for group 1 - couldn't vote prior to 1991 (65 observations)
Column 1 - relative policy closeness to Labor in '91
Column 2 - perceived relative competence of the Labor candidate in '91
Column 3 - respondent's age: =1 for age 18-24, =2 for age 25-34, =3 for age
           35-44, =4 for age 45-54, =5 for age 55-64, =6 for age 65+ 
Column 4 - respondent's origin: =1 if the respondent is of African or Asian
           (Sephardic) origin, =2 otherwise (note: the variable reported in
	   the paper is 2 minus this value)
Column 5 - years of schooling 
Column 6 - religious orthodoxy measure, from 1 to 4 (=1 for an Orthodox Jew,
           =4 for a secular person)
Column 7 - vote in '91: =1 if voted for Labor, =0 if voted for Likud 

sedat2.txt - data for group 2 - couldn't vote prior to 1988 (55 observations)
