Gordon Anderson, "Poverty in America 1970-1990: Who Did Gain Ground? An Application of Stochastic Dominance Criteria Employing Simultaneous Inequality Tests in a Partial Panel", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 18, No. 6, 2003, pp. 621-640. All data are drawn from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (Hill, 1992), with the income data standardized by the US income deflator with the base year set at 1 in 1982. The file 84_8684.dat contains the independent observations for 1984 in the 1984-1986 comparison. Similarly, 86_8684.dat contains the independent observations for 1986 in the 1984-86 comparison, and so on. These files are in the form of an n x 5 matrix with income, household size, white / non- white indicator (white = 1), age of head of household, and family indicator. The file 8684p.dat contains the panel observations for 1984 and 1986. In general, the file xxyyp.dat contains panel observations for 19xx and 19yy. These files are in the form of an n x 7 matrix with income (1st year), household size (1st year), income (2nd year), household size (2nd year), white / non-white indicator (white = 1), age of head of household (in 1st year), and family indicator. Each type of file is organized to be compatible with the Gauss program wolap.g used for calculating the various stochastic dominance tests and related statistics. All data files are ASCII files in DOS format. They are zipped in the file ga-data.zip. Unix users should use "unzip -a".
