The file gaelm.zip contains one data file and four Gauss program files.
The latter are self-documenting. All are ASCII files in DOS format.

The file gaeldat.dat contains quarterly data on tax revenues, expenditures
and debt for the US government, over the period 1947(2) to 1992(3).  There
are 182 observations on 8 variables.  The data were obtained from the web
site of the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, linked to the
Quintos (1995) paper referred to in the paper. 

The variables in this file are as follows:

col. 1 - real tax revenues

col. 2 - real government expenditures (inclusive of debt payments)

col. 3 - real debt

col. 4 - real per capita tax revenues

col. 5 - real per capita government expenditures (inclusive of debt payments)

col. 6 - real per capita debt

col. 7 - real tax revenues normalized by GNP

col. 8 - real government expenditures normalized by GNP (inclusive of debt
         payments)
