Miguel A. Delgado and Juan Mora, "Testing Non-Nested Semiparametric Models: An Application to Engel Curves Specification", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 13, No. 2, 1998, pp. 145-162. The data used in the paper come from the 1980 Spanish Family Expenditure Survey. This data set contains 23972 observations. The following files contain the variables which have been used in the paper. Y.DAT Data on "Percentage of Total Expenditure which the household has spent on Food" X.DAT Data on "Total expenditure of the household" Z1.DAT Data on "Age of Reference Person in the household" Z2.DAT Data on "Size of the household" Z3.DAT Data on "Size of the town where the household is placed", categorised into 5 groups: 1 for small towns, 5 for big ones Z4.DAT Data on "Sex of reference person" (1 for man, 6 for woman). Each of these files simply consists of 23972 rows and 1 column. All data files (which are in DOS format) are zipped in the file dm-data.zip. Some of the FORTRAN programs are also included. (All programs used may be easily obtained from these ones). MONTEC1.F Program used in the Monte Carlo experiment with Model 1 (See Section 4) TABLE1B1.F Program used to obtain results in Table 1 (Semiparametric estimates of QES form with k=160, see Section 5). TABLE2B1.F Program used to obtain results in Table 2 (Semiparametric testing of null:QES versus alternative:GWL, with k=160, see Section 5). These files are zipped in the file dm-progs.zip.
