Moshe Buchinsky, "The Dynamic of Changes in the Female Wage Distribution in the U.S.: A Quantile Regression Approach", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 13, No. 1, 1998, pp. 1-30. The data are organized in five separate files, each of which contains variables from an extract from the March Current Population Survey (March-CPS). The files are named: data68.zip data73.zip data79.zip data86.zip data90.zip for the years 1968, 1973, 1979, 1986 and 1990, respectively. These are all compressed files. You can decompress a file by using unzip or pkunzip. Each of the compressed files contains variables organized in SEPARATE ASCII files. These are in Unix format; DOS and Windows users may need to convert LF to CR/LF pairs. For example the variable age.dat contains the information on the age of the person, and that information only, and similarly for the other variables. The rows across files match each other, that is, the same line in different files contains information about the same individual. Be careful when unzipping the files, since the name of the files contained in the compressed file are the same in all years. It is strongly recommended that each file be unzipped in a separate subdirectory. Each file also contains the SAS program with which the extracts were created (cps68fm.sas, etc.), so that one can easily use the generally available March-CPS manuals to identify each and every variable.
