Kevin Lee, M. Hashem Pesaran, and Ron Smith, "Growth and Convergence in a Multicountry Empirical Stochastic Solow Model", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 12, No. 4, 1997, pp. 357-392. In this paper, henceforth denoted LPS, we analyse the (logarithm of) real per capita GDP in 102 non-oil producing countries, and two sub-sets of them (an intermediate group of 61 countries and a group of 22 OECD countries), using annual data for the period 1960- 1989 (30 observations). The original source of the data is the Penn World Tables [PWT] (Version 5.6), dated November 20, 1994. Version 5.0 of the PWT is described in Summers and Heston (Quarterly Journal of Economics, 1991). The measure of per-capita income that we use is labelled RGDPL on the PWT. The data are stored in four files: NAME.LPS contains the names of all of the countries contained in the PWT (with country identifiers), plus an explicit listing of the countries included in the 102, 61, and 22 country sample used in LPS. The file takes 14 kbytes. Y102.LPS contains the (logarithm) of per-capita GDP for the 102 country sample over the period 1960-1989. Data is ordered country by country (i.e. the 30 observations relating to per-capita GDP in country 1 is followed by the 30 observations relating to per-capita GDP in country 2, and so on). The file takes 40 kbytes. Y61.LPS contains the (logarithm of) per-capita GDP for the 61 country sample over the period 1960-1989, and the data is ordered country by country. The file takes 24 kbytes. Y22.LPS contains the (logarithm of) per capita GDP for the 22 country sample over the period 1960-1989 and the data is ordered country by country. The file takes 8 kbytes. These four files, which are in DOS format, are zipped in the file lps-data.zip.
